Through out my years at college I have very often came across Dell as the perfect example for any subject I was studying.
Well for E-Commerce and the value chain Dell is the perfect example to use. Dell as you know is a computer company
who has realised the huge cost savings buy using B2B E-Commerce, for both sales and procurement.
Dell the worlds largest computer maker sells over 50 million USD per day via its E-Commerce site.
The company uses a procurement system called valuechain.dell.com to provide information exchanges with its
suppliers regarding inventory level and product quality. Its efficient supply chain allows dell to assemble it
products within hours of receiving customers orders while keeping only 7 hours of inventory. Dell has procured
over 26billion USD of materials via the valuechain.dell.com. What I have found most interesting about this company
is that dell has created their own direct model meaning that they own the entire value chain, which is shown here
The model starts with the customer and ends with the customer.
Clearly the B2B E- Commerce has had and will continue to have a huge impact on the value chain.
As we can see by dell the results are astonishing and many other companies are benefiting from B2B E-Commerce
